Cliff Maxwell

When the family got a piano as a Christmas gift, Cliff refused to get anywhere near it, much less take the lessons that mom and dad were encouraging him to take. He was pretty sure it was a diversion, with intent to save mom & dad from having to listen to all that racket that comes with young boys and drum kits.

Starting with the elementary school band, followed by formal lessons with a Berklee graduate instructor (thanks and a tip of the hat to Jack Berky), he has been playing drums ever since. Mom recognized determination, and sacrificed sanity and hard earned dollars to buy him his first drum kit in fifth grade, and launched thirty years of drumming in too many rock n’ roll and blues bands to mention.

For the last ten years, Cliff’s attention has been turned to the world of jazz. With 40 years of playing experience, The River City Trio marks his first effort as a jazz band leader.
